31 Baptism Thank You Messages Examples

Following your baptism or your child’s baptism, you may want to send a thank-you note card to your parents, godparents, grandmas, other relatives, etc. You can also thank the priest or pastor who performed the baptism.

Baptism traditions and celebrations vary, and I will not pretend to be familiar with all of them. The purpose of this post is to give you ideas and templates for what to write when sending out thank you cards after a baptism.

If you are wondering if it’s baptise or baptize, the “z” is American English, and the “s” is British English. I live in the USA, so I will stick with baptize. It’s two spellings of the same word. Feel free to change the “s” to a “z” in your thank you note wording based on your spelling preference.

The examples will be split into sections based on if the baptism was yours or your child’s.

What Should You Write in a Baptism Thank You Note?

Your note should include a personalized message which could include one or more of the following:

  • Thank you for attending, celebrating, or coming
  • Thank you for traveling from a far distance
  • Thanks for any gifts, including money.
  • Thank you for taking part in your special day
  • A verse from the Bible

If you’d like to include a Bible verse in your thank-you notecard, there is a list of baptism verses here. A verse could be added in addition to your thank you message.

For a special day like a baptism sending handwritten thank-you notes is recommended. Email or phone may be okay, too, depending on your family traditions.

The samples below may also work for Christening thank-you notes. I haven’t been to a Christening. If you think the messages make sense for Christening, you could substitute Baptism with Christening.

Who To Thank After Your Baptized?

First, you will need to decide who you want to thank regarding your baptism or your child’s.

  • grandparents
  • godparents
  • parents
  • other family or friends
  • priest
  • pastor (to thank your pastor for reasons other than baptism, read through the pastor thank you note examples).
  • anyone who gave a gift

A person’s name could be their title, such as “Dear Mom and Dad” or “Dear Grandma,” if you usually do not refer to the person by their first name.

If you were given money or another gift, you could thank the person in the same note where you thank them for coming.

Please be sure to include a greeting, closing, and sign your name. You may also want to review the 5 easy steps to writing thank you notes here.

Other possible closings to use instead of Love are:

  • Thanks again

Thank You Note for Baptism to Pastor or Priest

Notes: Priest or pastor can be switched (i.e., change the word priest to the pastor or vice versa) in the examples below as needed. If someone other than your pastor did the baptism (or helped with it), these notes should work. Please adjust the wording accordingly.

  1. Thank you for performing the baptism for [child’s name]! We were so happy for you to be the one to do it, as [child’s name] looks up to you. We consider you part of our family. This memory will last a lifetime, and we are glad you were part of it.
  2. We are thankful to you for performing the baptism of [Child’s Name]. Having him baptized as a baby was important to us, and we are grateful that we could trust you to do it. The ceremony was beautiful.
  3. Thank you for the baptism service for my baby. Everything about it was perfect, and we will remember this day forever. When [Baby’s Name] is older, we will share the pictures with him and let him know you were the pastor.
  4. Praise the Lord! I am happy to be baptized and appreciate that you were the pastor to do it. Thank you for being willing to stand in the cold lake to baptize me and the others that were also baptized.
  5. What a fantastic day! Thank you for encouraging me to share the short version of why I wanted to be baptized with the congregation. One person approached me afterward, as she could relate to what I mentioned. I am grateful to you, Pastor, for all that you do and for being the one to baptize me.
  6. I am glad you were able to perform my baptism! I’ve learned so much from your messages this past year. I am ready to declare my love and devotion to Jesus publicly. Praise the Lord!
  7. The service for baptizing me and the others was beautiful. You are the best priest! The photos slide of each person was great too.  I loved every part of the special day and look forward to sharing the message of Jesus with others.
