When someone prays for you, you may want to send a thank you for your prayers message. Even when the prayers are not answered the way we want, we can still express our gratitude to those who have been praying for us.
Sometimes the prayers are for specific reasons, such as when sick, having surgery, when a person passes away, or another challenging time.
There could also be family members or a friend that are praying for you every day because they love and care for you.
How To Say Thank You ForThe Prayers
When saying thank you for prayers, you can write a handwritten thank you note, send an email, or write a text message.
Here is a template thank you message for prayers.
[1] Dear [Person’s Name],
[2] Thank you for your prayers during [reason for the prayers]. I appreciate that you thought of me and [then provide an update on the situation]. You’re a great friend.
[3] God bless,
[4] [Your Name]
Template notes
[1] The Greeting. You can also remove the Dear and start with the person’s name.
[2] The Thank You. Write a short thank you message. If you are comfortable sharing, you can an update regarding the situation that was being prayed about. It’s also okay not to share about the situation. You can also include a compliment of the person if you’d like to.
[3] The Closing. Other closings could be My God bless you, Kind regards, Sincerely, or Thanks again.
[4] Your Name. Remember to sign your name!
If you want to include Bible verses in your note, I suggest Numbers 6:24-26:
24 The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.
If you send a text message, you probably do not need to start with a greeting, and you can remove the closing and your name. However, you can if you want to. Text messages are generally more casual than a written notecard.
A handwritten note will feel more personal and could be mailed or handed to the person (perhaps at church). There are plenty of choices of notecards. You can review my guide for choosing a note card.
The thanks for your prayers examples below will be only the “thank you” section (part 2) of the thank you note. They are grouped by possible situations to help you find the right words.
Short Thank You For Your Prayers Quotes
The messages in this section are only one or two sentences. They can be used as the start of a longer thank-you note. Or use them to say thank you for praying when you don’t want to share details or an update on the situation.

- Thank you for all the prayers during this difficult time.
- Thank you for your support and prayers.
- Thank you for the prayers. You’re a great friend.
- With a grateful heart, I want to thank you for your prayers.

- Thank you for your prayers, love, and support. To God be the glory!
- Thank you for your prayers.
Also, I usually encourage people to be specific when writing thank you notes, sometimes, the situation being prayed for is too personal or upsetting to write about in a note. And it’s possible that the person praying for you doesn’t know the details (such as an unspoken prayer request). So, there will be examples below that are intentionally vague.

Thank You Letter to the Church Family for the Prayers Example
When you or a family member go through a difficult time or illness, your church may be praying for you. Often there could be a prayer chain or a pastor offering up a prayer during a service on behalf of your family.
When a larger group from the church is praying, you can write a letter to the church to the pastor (or another appropriate contact). That person may choose to read your letter to the congregation.
You can add additional paragraphs as needed, depending on how in-depth you want to go. Also, your wording can change based on the outlook of the situation.
Dear Friends,
We want to thank everyone in our church family that has been praying for Jake and our entire family. Unfortunately, the last month has been difficult for our family with Jake’s health problems.
We appreciate every text message, prayer, good thought, and support while we weather this storm. We are blessed to have strong relationships with many others who follow Christ.
With love,
The Jones Family
