You borrowed a car, return it with a thank you note!

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to borrow someone’s car? Was it for the day or weeks?

When you borrow someone’s car they are likely being inconvenienced (unless they had an extra car!) Driving their car means that aren’t able to drive it.

When you are done borrowing the car, the polite thing to do is write a thank you note and return it with a full tank of gas!

Thank you note for borrowed car

The thank you note will let them know much you appreciated being able to borrow the car. In my family, the most common reason for borrowing a car is to get to work or school.

When I lived at home when my car needed maintenance my parents would let me drive their car to work. This was over 12 years, I am grateful that they helped me. Enough time has passed that I will not be writing them a thank you note now.

You should write your thank you note promptly! Either hand deliver it when returning the vehicle, leave it in the vehicle, or mail it within a day or two.

Here are some examples:

Dear Mom,

Thank you for letting me borrow your car. I was able to make it to the office and avoid taking sick time while my car was being repaired. I appreciate your generosity with the vehicle. I realize it was an inconvenience for you to be with your car while I was driving it.

Thanks Again,
Heidi

Dear Jean,

I want to thank you for allowing me to drive your extra car for a few weeks. I was able to finish out the school semester without missing any classes. I will be looking for a used new car now that school is out.

Sincerely,
Heidi

Dear Victoria,

I sure was in a bind when I got into that fender bender! Thank you so much for letting me borrow your car while mine was straightened out. I am thankful for your kindness and friendship.

Thanks Again,

Heidi

Have you received a thank you note when you borrowed someone’s car? Did you send a thank you note when you were the borrower?
