25 Thank You for the Promotion Messages for Emails and Notecards

Getting promoted feels wonderful. Congratulations on your promotion.

You may want to express your sincere gratitude and appreciation to your boss or anyone involved in your promotion.

“Getting a promotion is a big deal! A quick but sincere ‘thank you’ isn’t only good manners; it’s a smart move for your career that keeps you in the limelight.

A little gratitude goes a long way. It shows your professionalism and cements your reputation as a team player. The simple gesture highlights your skills and shows your appreciation and enthusiasm for the new opportunities.” says, Amanda Kay, an employment specialist.

Saying Thank You for Promotion Tips

Here are some tips to help you write your boss a thank you message for your promotion.

In addition to thanking your boss, you may want to thank others who made your promotion possible, such as your boss’s boss or a mentor.

What To Write In Your Thank You Message

Beyond saying thank you for the promotion, you might also want to include:

  • How you feel being promoted.
  • Specifically thanking a mentor for how their help made your promotion possible.
  • Gratitude for the recognition that comes along with being promoted.

Say Thank You for the Raise, Too

Most promotions include a raise. So, you may also want to thank your boss for the raise.

The primary reason for the note is thanking for the promotion, so adding “Thank you for the raise” may be sufficient.

You can read the thank your boss for the raise messages, which may help you add wording to include the raise in your message. I have also included some examples below to help you say thank you for a raise and a promotion.

Short and Sweet Can Work

A short note that only says “Thank you for the promotion.” may be enough if you don’t have anything else you want to say.

A longer message may better show your appreciation. However, only saying “Thank you for the promotion.” is better than not expressing your gratitude at all.

And remember to stick to the topic. Leave out unnecessary flattery.

Writing an Email or a Handwritten Note

Writing a thank you email for a promotion is fine in an office setting.

If you can hand your boss a notecard in person or leave it on their desk, you may want to make the extra effort to handwrite a note.

However, asking your boss for their home address is not good workplace etiquette. If they work in another office location, you could mail a note or letter to them at that location.

Don’t Mention Dollar Amounts

I don’t recommend mentioning any actual dollar amounts or percentages of your promotion or raise. You don’t know who else may see your note (even if sent via email).

Leaving out the amount will help keep any monetary increases confidential if other teammates happen to see your note.

Read All the Examples

I encourage you to read through all the examples and write a note in your own words.

You can take wording inspiration from more than one of the samples for your note. Your message will sound more like you if you don’t copy/paste one of the examples directly.
